Sometimes a site needs a break: a new look, a move from another platform, a big update of the catalog. During those hours visitors should not land on a half-finished page. They should find a short, kind message that tells them you are working and when you will be back.
One switch in the admin
Maintenance mode now lives in Settings → General: turn it on and visitors get the maintenance page, while you, signed in, keep seeing and checking the real site. Search engines are told it is temporary, so your pages keep their place. A small badge in the admin reminds you it is on.
A page that does not depend on the theme
Until now the maintenance page was drawn by the theme, and themes made just for one site often had none. The new Maintenance plugin, free in the catalog, draws it for any theme.
- Your logo and your colors
- A title and a message for each language of the site
- The date you will be back, and an email to reach you
- A “coming soon” mode for sites that are about to launch
- A preview before you switch it on
