Edge cache — a fast site, always up to date

Free plugin

Fast with many visitors, up to date right away

If your site sits behind Varnish or Cloudflare, they hand out ready copies of your pages, so the site stays quick even on a busy day. Edge cache tells them the moment a page changes, so visitors never see an old version.

Useful only if your hosting or a CDN keeps a copy of your pages.

Edge cache

What it does for you

Speed for visitors, no stale pages

A copy of each page waits close to your visitors. When you change something, only the pages involved are refreshed.

Quick on busy days

Ready copies of your pages are served in front of the site, so a rush of visitors does not slow it down.

Changes show up right away

Fix a price or a typo and save: the old copy is thrown away a moment later.

Only what changed

Cleitext knows which pages a change touches and refreshes just those, not the whole site.

Private things stay private

The admin, previews and anyone who has signed in are never kept in the cache.

Varnish or Cloudflare

It works with the Varnish cache many hosting companies use, and with Cloudflare on any plan.

Edge cache: Varnish on, purge buttons and the rules for Varnish

In the admin

See what the cache is doing

Which cache is on, the latest purges and the rules to give your Varnish server, ready to copy. One button empties the whole cache when you need it.

Edge cache

Do you need it?

For sites behind a cache

Install it if your hosting puts Varnish in front of the site, or if you use Cloudflare. If you are on plain hosting without either, you do not need it: Cleitext already keeps its own pages fast.

  • A “Purge the whole site” button for when you want a fresh start
  • Changes saved close together go out as one refresh
  • The Cloudflare key is checked when you save it and kept encrypted
  • Ready-made rules to hand to whoever manages your server

Get started

Ready in a few minutes

Install it

In Plugins → Add New, find Edge cache, then click Install and Activate.

Choose your cache

In Settings → Edge cache, turn on Varnish or Cloudflare and say how long pages are kept. If you are not sure which one you have, ask your hosting.

Finish the setup

Open Edge cache in the admin menu: for Cloudflare, paste your API token; for Varnish, copy the rules shown there and send them to whoever manages your server. Then click Check the home page.

Questions

How do I know if my site is behind a cache?

If you set up Cloudflare yourself, you know it. For Varnish, ask your hosting: many managed hosting plans include it. If neither applies, you can skip this plugin.

Will my customers see old prices or old texts?

No. As soon as you save, the pages that changed are removed from the cache, and the next visitor gets the new version.

Can it break the login or the admin?

The plugin never caches the admin or signed-in people. Whoever sets up Varnish or Cloudflare just needs to follow the rules shown in the Edge cache page.

Do I need a paid Cloudflare plan?

No: refreshing pages one by one works on every Cloudflare plan, the free one included.
