WordPress Importer — move your WordPress site to Cleitext

Free plugin

Move from WordPress without starting over

Bring your whole site to Cleitext with one file: posts, pages, pictures and menus arrive in place, and the links people already have keep working.

No technical skills needed: everything happens in the admin.

WordPress Importer

What comes along

Your site, as you left it

Years of work don’t have to be copied by hand.

Posts and pages

With their dates, drafts, parent pages and featured images, plus categories and tags.

Pictures and files

Photos and documents are copied over from your WordPress site by themselves.

Old links still work

Addresses already shared or found on Google lead to the new pages, so nobody lands on an error.

Menus

Your navigation menus come along, with their items in the same order.

Comments

Readers’ comments come with their replies, the approved ones and those still waiting.

Authors

Each author gets an account with the role you choose, and sets a new password with “Forgot password”.

Import from WordPress: the export file and the import options

Tools → Import from WordPress

One file, your whole site

Export the site from WordPress with Tools → Export, choose the file here and press Import. Authors, comments and form protection have their options; pictures are downloaded from the old site.

Pages built with a page builder

Even designed pages come along

If your WordPress site was built with Elementor or Spectra, those pages are rebuilt with the Cleitext tools that do the same job. What can’t be rebuilt keeps its text and is listed in the report.

  • Elementor pages become Fresco pages, with their columns, colors and texts, and the site kit becomes Fresco’s site settings
  • With Fresco Pro, Elementor headers, footers, popups and global widgets come along with their conditions
  • Spectra blocks become Prisma blocks, when Prisma is active
  • Blog boxes like latest posts, categories and search become Widgets blocks
  • The usual WordPress blocks stay blocks

Get started

Ready in a few minutes

Install it

In Plugins → Add New, find WordPress Importer, then click Install and Activate.

Download your site from WordPress

In WordPress, open Tools → Export, choose All content and press Download Export File.

Import it into Cleitext

In Cleitext, open Import from WordPress, choose the file and the role of the authors, and press Import. You can leave the page: at the end a report tells you what arrived.

Questions

Do I have to switch off my WordPress site first?

No, keep it online until the import ends: pictures and files are copied from there.

What if I import the same file twice?

Nothing is doubled and nothing already on the site is overwritten. Only comments that were missing are added.

Will I lose my place on Google?

The old addresses lead to the new pages, so search engines and visitors find them where they expect.

Are my WooCommerce products imported too?

No. Products and other content made by other plugins are counted in the report but not imported.

Goes well with

Plugins that work well together

Layout Import

Moving from a WordPress theme whose page builder left codes like [av_section] in your pages? Turn those pages into ordinary blocks you can edit, with sections, columns, texts, images and buttons.

Multilingual

Several languages on a site: translations of content, categories and menus, language addresses, hreflang, a language switcher and optional automatic translation.

Convert Editors

Move pages and posts between the block editor, Classic Editor, Fresco and Vitality Builder, many at a time: see first what is kept, then convert in place (undo from Revisions) or as a new draft.
