You keep one site to manage. Every page simply has its versions in the other languages.

Your main language and a second one, each with its own address, like /en or /de. More languages come with Multilingual Pro.
Translate with a click
Add translation copies the page into a draft in the other language, ready for you to rewrite.
Automatic translation, with Pro
With Multilingual Pro, connect your DeepL account and new translations arrive already translated, with bold and links kept. You just check them.
Nothing left behind
Changed the original? Its translations show “needs update”, and one page shows what is missing in each language.
A language switcher
Visitors move from one language to another from your theme’s switcher, landing on the same page.
Right for Google
Google learns which page is the translation of which, so German speakers find the German page.

Install it
In Plugins → Add New, find Multilingual, then click Install and Activate.
Add your languages
In Languages, in the admin menu, add the languages you want and choose the main one. Write the site title in each.
Translate your pages
Open a page in the editor and use Translations in the sidebar. Translations, in the menu, shows what is still missing.
Questions
What is free, and what comes with Pro?
Multilingual is free for your main language and one more, on one site: translations, addresses, switcher and Google. Multilingual Pro (€59 a year, every site) adds every language, automatic translation with DeepL, a domain per language and posts not translated yet.
I already use more languages: does anything change?
No. Everything your site already has keeps working after the update, languages, DeepL and domains included. Pro is needed only to add more.
What if I haven’t translated everything yet?
No problem. A page without translation simply doesn’t exist in that language; with Pro, posts not translated yet can be listed in the main language.
If I turn it off, do I lose my translations?
No. The site goes back to its main language, and when you turn it on again the other languages come back.
Does it work with my theme?
Yes: the language addresses work with every theme, and themes with a language switcher show it for you.
