A newsletter is the most direct way to stay in touch: no algorithm decides who sees it. But first people have to sign up, and the signup box is often a piece of somebody else’s site pasted into yours, with other colours, other fonts and a script that tracks your visitors. NewLetter, new with Cleitext 0.84, does it the other way round: the form is drawn by your site, in your theme’s style, and new subscribers go straight to the service you already use.
Every subscriber, a new letter
Yes, the name is a small joke: not “Newsletter” but NewLetter, because every person who signs up is one more new letter on its way. Behind the joke there is a simple idea. Your site collects the signups; your email service writes and sends the newsletters. Sending thousands of emails from your own server is the quickest way into spam folders, so NewLetter never tries: deliverability, unsubscribe links and statistics stay with the service that does them best.
Five services, two minutes
Install NewLetter from the catalog and open it. Choose Brevo, Mailchimp, MailerLite, Kit or ActiveCampaign, paste the API key and press Test connection: the name of your account appears, with your lists and how many people are in each. Tick the list for new subscribers, save, and the form is ready.
- A block, a Fresco widget or the [newletter] shortcode, on any page
- Email only, name and email, or more fields, in a column or on one line
- Double opt-in on by default: people confirm by email before they are on the list
- Antispam or Captcha keep bots away, and the form works even without JavaScript
- Every text can be changed, in every language of the site
“Subscribe me”, where people already are
The best moment to ask for an email is when someone is already writing to you. With NewLetter on, an unticked “Subscribe me to the newsletter” box appears in the contact forms of Forms, at the checkout of Cleishop and in the booking form of Agenda. A guest asks about a room, a customer buys, a student books a class: one more click and they get your news too. Only if they want: the box is never ticked in advance.
Consent you can show, privacy you can trust
Every subscription is in NewLetter → Subscriptions, with the consent: date, time and the exact words accepted. Email addresses are never kept there in clear, only a hint like m•••@e•••.com. NewLetter adds no tracker of the services to your pages; the Privacy plugin writes the Newsletter section of your policy and includes these records when someone asks to export or erase their data.
Coming from WordPress?
With the WordPress Importer, the forms of Mailchimp for WP, Brevo, The Newsletter Plugin and MailPoet become NewLetter forms, in the same place on the same pages, and so do the forms embedded from Mailchimp, Brevo, MailerLite, Kit and ActiveCampaign. Subscribers already in your service stay there: just connect it.
Updates that never break your list
A signup form must work every day, also while you sleep. Like every part of Cleitext, NewLetter is tested at every change, and every update is tried first and rolled back by itself if something goes wrong: updates never break your site.
